ROBO CLAM IS DESIGNED TO DIG ON ITS OWN

A robotic submarine automated digging machine could be real useful in subsurface, subbottom research, mine clearance, seafloor sensor implantation, submarine cable repair, really just all sorts of things where a diver with a spade might be used a robotic clam would be cheaper. In many applications a diver with a spade may simply not be able to reach the objective. Enter MIT's "ROBO CLAM". The real razor clam is known for its agile digging ability. So MIT researchers studied the mechanics of how it accomplishes its work and came up with something that looks a bit like a large jack knife. "Robo Clam" can dig like the real thing until its batteries run out . Robo clam is able to dig a third of a mile in typical bottom sediments on the amount of energy in a double A battery.
