Pregnancy Over 40, You May Be More Fertile Throughout The Month

You Ovulate on Day 14, right?
Maybe, maybe not. Heres a very interesting article which happens to be written for women trying to avoid pregnancy, but the information may be very helpful if youre TTC:

SEE ALSO: WHY FERTILITY CHARTING AND BBT MAY NOT WORK (getpregnantover40.com)

From the article:

"Researchers showed that 2% of women started their fertile window by day four of their menstrual cycle, and 17% by day seven. Day one of the menstrual cycle is the day that menstruation begins. More than 70% of women were in their fertile window before day 10 or after day 17. Women who regarded their menstrual cycles as "regular" had a 1 to 6 percent probability of being fertile even on the day that their next period was expected to begin. This leaves few "safe" days for natural birth control methods such as the "rhythm method." Women who participated in the study were required to provide daily urine samples that were tested for estrogen and progesterone. A sudden change in these hormones marks the occurrence of ovulation. This test was used to identify ovulation days during 696 menstrual cycles.

Previous reports by Dr. Wilcox and colleagues had shown that the fertile window spans six days and ended on the day of ovulation; however the new report found that even women whose menstrual cycles are normally regular can experience sporadic ovulation. Late ovulation causes 4 to 6 percent of women to potentially be fertile during the fifth week of their cycles--more than 28 days after menstruation last started."

baby losing weight in third trimester

Our toddlers are 16-months old. While they still have a very selfish, toddler view of the world, they have started actually interacting with each other in a more meaningful way. I love seeing all of my boys playing together; I feel like Im watching (and nurturing!) the foundations being built to life-long friendships between all three of my precious boys. As for the one-year olds, it is hilarious and entrancing watching two toddlers discover the world around them. This is definitely one of those "double the fun" times.

"Do you like see-food?"

"You promise I get a turn after this, right?"
"Of course, of course..."

"On your mark... get set..."

"Go!"

"Wow. Dads lawn mower makes a lot more noise than ours..."

"Here comes the dump truck!"
I know, I know. A lot of pictures of just the toddlers. Well, as any momma of a four-year old knows, four-year olds do not play in one place. While the toddlers often stop what they are doing to sit and watch something loud or unusual (such as the lawn mower), the four-year old immediately jumps into action! Their big brother is currently a 1. obstacle course guy 2. a rock-n-roll guy 3. a football guy 4. a BIG MUSCLES guy 5. a karate guy 6. a good cook guy... Im sure Im missing a few things. The other obstacle in getting a picture of all three boys is that the preschoolers games are much too advanced for the toddlers. When we go in the front yard, he wants to ride his bike up and down the driveway. The toddlers, on the other hand, like to push around their Fisher Price corn poppers. Usually, during play, the toddlers are occupied with one thing and the preschooler is doing something more elaborate and age appropriate. As the momma, the toddlers are the greater urgency, to use a triage approach. I can direct the preschooler verbally but must bodily move the toddlers. When we go to the park, I can let the preschooler play on a different area within eyesight; D can swing while I hover over his brothers on the little tykes playground making sure no toddlers hurdle themselves head first over the side of the slide. Also, now that D has actually started preschool, I have large chunks of time with just the toddlers, something that has been very enjoyable to me. It is great to have a chance to interact with them only on their age level. This is the first time that I have had significant one-on-two time with them (and get pictures of them!).

We do participate in many, many group family activities. We like to have the kids participate in our household chores, like mowing the lawn. The toddlers push their Fisher Price lawn mowers around the driveway while D rides on his John Deere Gator as Husband cuts the grass. We are all outside and the boys get to imitate Daddy, help with some little things, and generally learn that the grass does not cut itself. Inside the house, I have the boys help unload the dishwasher, fold the laundry, clean the kitchen floor, and wipe down the highchairs. None of these things are ever really times that I have my camera on me. However, it is so adorable seeing the three of them cleaning the kitchen floor that I really do need to record it one of these days. We do a lot of fun family activities too, spending most of our time hanging out in the backyard or the sunroom. We do things like push trucks, do puzzles (usually easier block puzzles, having our oldest teach his brothers), blocks, rolling and kicking balls (kicking balls outside only!), playing with push toys and wagons... all sorts of things. We read a lot together. Ive started teaching the preschooler the sounds of the letters. Now hes interested in the more basic books with less of plot again, books that are easy to find these "sounds." Sometimes the toddlers will be absorbed in their own happenings and I can curl up with D and we can read a longer, more in-depth book that has a storyline. These kind of moments are hard to take a picture of. When you are absorbed in them, the last thing you want to do is interrupt the moment to grab your camera. I did recently capture my husband setting up our new play equipment with the boys. C and O felt that standing on the landing was the best use of their help. D was actually quite a big help, screwing in one side of the equipment. It is amazing what four-year olds are capable of! We are constantly amazed at the inner-workings of his mind... :)

Daddy has a lot of helpers!

Screwing the pieces together-- go, D man!

Enjoying the fruits of their labor.

post pregnancy weight loss after c section | Sparrows Birthday Dolly Part 2

post pregnancy weight loss after c section

So, the night before the party, while I was up making Sparrows dolly some green boots, (to see Part 1 post click HERE) I noticed some pretty tule fabric in my bag from Sams grandma.  I knew that Sparrow would be wearing a pink, girly tu-tu dress with pink, sparkly, Tiny Toms at her birthday bash.  Thats when a thought was dropped into my mind by the sewing fairies! ;) She needs a ballerina outfit! YES! My girly colors where flying, as I sat there on the couch, making the cutest little vintage tu-tu with a pale blue ribbon to tie it off at the back of the waist. Then came the slippers. Sigh. After I was finished, I decided to dress her in this dancer outfit  and wrap her coat and boots separately.

Jessie, Sparrows mommy, is one of my dearest friends and one of the most creative people that I know. She uses pages of old story books for cards and sweet notes. Ive been adopting this practice  ever since she gave me one, after Káel was born last year.  I found this connect the dot page from a childrens activity book, from 1954 and thought it would be perfect! I wrote our message along the lines... *squeal* :) Next time you are at the thrift store and you see a 40 cent old childrens book...grab it and try this sweet little idea out on a friend. :)
Btw, I almost NEVER use wrapping paper to wrap a gift. I always figure using some pretty fabric is more fun and quaint. Then, whoever is receiving the gift can reuse it for a project or another gift! :) Old sheets are a great, cheap idea. Thats what I used for this.
Reading her card. Um...excuse me, but do you see what she is wearing!? Look at that little princess headdress? Paaaaaalease!!! When I walked into their house, I squealed so loud! She was her mommys daughter. Feather funk and all!

They meet for the first time. It was precious.

Seeing her open up her present and smile, with that sweet little miss smirk, made my heart soar to heaven. I have tears in my eyes right now, just thinking about last year and all the prayers and tears we all shared with Jessie and her family as Sparrow, the miracle baby, came out of her first surgery, strong and brave. Sparrow had another open heart surgery 3 months later and will have one more when she is around 3. She is a total kiss from Jesus and I adore her with all my heart! Many of you may remember reading my post, where I talked about her story. If you havent read it and would like to you can click here to read the beginning of her story and HERE! This little darlin is the toughest, sweetest sugar ever!

Happy birthday little bird. I love you so much!

weight loss after pregnancy uk

Where does your mental health come on your list of things to do this month? With only 2 weeks to go before the big day (gulp!) if you are anything like me, your mental health is probably somewhere waaaaay down the list of things this Christmas.  Hang on, lets be honest.  If you are anything like me, its not even on your long list of things. I just never really think about it.  Until that is, I need to.  Last month, I was having real difficulty getting to sleep. I had list after list of things to do, things to plan, worries and thoughts all running round in my head the moment my head touched the pillow.

I had read about an app for your phone called Headspace after reading an article on how more and more people are turning to meditation in such a fast paced world.  Now, my previous experience with mediation was basically I have the concentration power of a gnat and instead of meditating I spend the time thinking how I SHOULD be meditating.

But, I decided to give it a try anyway. You download the free app to your mobile and then you listen to the app for 10 minutes per day for 10 days.  Now wait, before you start thinking of sitting crossed legged and umming and ahhhing, this is not that and there isnt any pan pipes or ocean sounds to be heard.  Its a guy who chats and tells you what to do, and basically its just about sitting still, breathing and taking time out of your day to actually be present and think about yourself.

It wasnt until I actually listened to the app I realised how little I do this.  How days go by before I even consider how I am feeling or I just take the time out to relax and just be. I wont to lie to you. Taking the time to just listen to the app was half of my battle. I was always too busy, and sitting still for 10 minutes was apparently impossible. However, I eventually got around to listen to it, and I am so so glad I did.  The night I listened to it I actually felt really relaxed and I fell into a really lovely deep sleep. Now you may call this a placebo effect, and yes, that might have been the case, but who cares! Because it worked for me and I felt all the better for it.

The app does actually have lots of science behind it, and if you want more information or to download the free take ten programme you can check that out here.  The app is something that I keep coming back to, and I guess that is a good start in recognising the importance of looking after your mind, being more mindful and, well, I guess doing a bit of meditation.  I think our lives today are so fast paced, that you can lose track of these basic thoughts and skills.  And even if the app just lets me know that actually things are OK and gives me a time-out, well, that can only be a good thing in my eyes.

I would be really interested to hear your thoughts on this.  Is this something you would try? Do you ever think about your mental health? Comments below please!

Thank you for reading and I will see you nice and relaxed tomorrow for Blogmas day 12!

pregnancy losing weight second trimester | Toddler Fight Club meaner and tougher

pregnancy losing weight second trimester

Last month I wrote a post about how I thought my toddler had her own little fight club thing going on.  Not in the actual fight club sense with physical violence, but, as in the film, her own little set of rules that you chose not to obey at your peril. A key rule was that her rules changed pretty frequently without her actually telling me or her dad any of them.  You can read the original toddler fight club post here. Almost as if she had read my post, my beautiful daughter has upped her game, and here for your reading pleasure are her new toddler fight club rules.

Rule one of toddler fight club. There are many, many rules.

Rule two of toddler fight club. These rules will change daily sometimes hourly and different people have different rules.  If you are going to blog about them mummy, I will change them again.  This is my fight club.

Rule three of toddler fight club.  I now like not two, but three rubber ducks in my bed at bedtime.  Count them buster, 1,2,3.  And yes, I still need my penguin, a heart shaped stone and a blanket.  If any one of these said items is missing, then you can wave sleep bye-bye.

Rule four of toddler fight club.  I will trump at any given moment and then look nonchalantly at you. Yes, I am fully aware you find this embarrassing, but I am not admitting to trumping in public, its way too embarrassing.  For all intents and purposes, it was you.

Rule five of toddler fight club. I will also embarrass you at playgroup and announce in my loudest voice that the big blue lump of play dough looks like a poo I did that morning.  Its in the publics interest that they know this information.

Do not be fooled by the tiara and wand.  This kid means business.

Rule six of toddler fight club. Do not ever tell people about my skills. My skills are for your eyes only. I am not a performing monkey.  The minute you tell someone I can sing Frozen or Im a chatter box, I lose all power and control over my vocal chords.  And quite frankly, you look a little stupid.

Rule seven of toddler fight club. I now quite like the phrase donkey flag which I like to shout at the top of my voice whilst we are food shopping.  I have no idea what it means either.

Rule eight of toddler fight club. I must perform a five minute dance routine before bed or I cant sleep.  You let me watch Mary Poppins at Christmas and now I feel like I need to recreate Berts chimney sweep dance before bed.  Every single night.

Rule nine of toddler fight club. If you give me a helium balloon then expect me to work out the point in any given building of the highest ceiling to floor ratio and then I will release it there.  Now please go and get it or I will cry.

Rule ten of toddler fight club. The dog is still my personal miniature pony and he shall transport me around the house whenever I feel the need.

Ahhh, toddlers eh?! Well as Im typing its bedtime in the Laura Evelyn Bee household, so whilst I go and watch my daughter pretend to be a chimney sweep, are there any rules you think your little one would add to the list? Comments below please!

Thank you for reading,

weight loss journey after pregnancy

Woman Conceives Naturally at 47

Heres another one!
Heres another story of a woman who got pregnant by surprise at the age of 47.  So all you "youngsters" in your early 40s, it certainly happens!  Read more:

SEE ALSO: 49 AND PREGNANT (getpregnantover40.com)

From the article:

Becoming pregnant at age 47 wasnt a worry for Robin Brussel. "I enjoyed every minute of being pregnant," she said.
Still, it was a surprise. "I thought I was going through pre-menopause," she said. "It just happened."
Brussel, now 48, gave birth in December to a 6-pound, 10-ounce boy named Noah she carried for 39 weeks. He was a cesarean birth, as were her four older children, ages 18 to 28. Noah was the first child born to her and her husband, Mark Brussel, 56. Theyve been married nearly four years.

baby losing weight during cold | Baby Jogger City Select

baby losing weight during cold

Since weve brought our 4th child home, Ive been wanting to write a blog post about our stroller. Recently I wrote a blog post called "Stroller shopping checklist" that helps you find the right stroller for your family. In it, I also give the reasons as to how we ended up investing in the Baby Jogger City Select with the second seat. Ive already written several blog posts on our stroller, the first being "I love my stroller." This stroller has also made it on my must-have lists, the most in detail being "Cant buy me love" and "0-2 years old twin: must haves."
?

In the post "Stroller shopping checklist," I explain why I am so passionate about having a good stroller that fits our familys lifestyle:
I was so nervous about how I would manage a toddler and twins and having a stroller that suited our lifestyle helped make that much easier for me to handle on my own. I know that sounds really corny, but as a Navy family, it is difficult to live so far away from friends and family. When our twins were born, I did not have a large support network and was trying to figure out how I would manage everything on my own. I truly feel that for us, picking the right stroller made those first couple years with twins-- a busy time by all accounts-- easier.
Birth to the toddler years?

When we found out I was pregnant with twins, our oldest had just turned 2 years old. I immediately started researching strollers knowing that I would be managing all 3 children by myself most of the time. One of the first things that I really liked about our stroller is that it works from birth to the toddler years. While there is an option for bassinets-- I have seen parents use the Baby Jogger City Select with two bassinets for their twins-- I decided to use the car seat adapters.

When our twins were born, our oldest was just over 2 and a half years old. I quickly taught him to sit on the glider board, making it a comfortable place for him to ride for longer distances. Now that we have four children, Ive taught one of our toddlers to sit there so I can take all four of our boys out without have to wrangle them.

One of my favorite features about this stroller is that it can accommodate one to three children. I love that I have the option to make it a single stroller... or a double stroller... or add the glider board to hold three children! Part of what makes this stroller so versatile is that it really is easy to take off or put on accessories like the second seat or the car seat adapter. The glider board is also easy to attach to the stroller, but it also folds up nicely on the stroller if you want to leave it on and flip up or down when you decide to use it (or not). This stroller is full of options!

I love all the different seat positions. It seems silly to have so many options, but there are times where the boys feel social and like facing each other to chat while I ran errands and times where it was better to have them facing different directions (so the one in back cant kick his brothers seat, for instance) and times when it was nice having them both face forward, such as to see an exhibit. I posted these photos on my blog post, "0-2 years old twin: must haves." I took these when our twins were 2 years old; these are the most common seat positions I used when our twins were toddlers, sometimes adding the glider board for our oldest. {Check out the cool video on Baby Joggers website!}

?

When our twins were infants, I moved the seats around a lot more, mostly to make it easier to feed them or let them nap in the stroller. They also seemed to enjoy more interaction with each other while in the stroller as infants. Toddlers seem to enjoy much more conflict... :P

The glider board is attached to the stroller and folded up in this picture

"The stroller that grows with your family"

We bought this stroller when we found out we were having twins. When our twins were born, our oldest was 2.5 years old. We have used this stroller with our twins from the time they were newborns to 3-years old. Now we have another baby and we are using it with our twins (3-years old) and a newborn! Our oldest (now 6 years old) walks next to us and holds on to the side of the stroller when I need him close (crossing the street, busy area, etc). Here are some pictures of us using the Baby Jogger City Select with baby #4:

Since he is a newborn, I like to recline the seat for him. The seat is deep enough that it is almost like a bassinet.

We love our stroller!

Here are some pictures I took during our twins first year (our oldest 2.5 years old to 3.5 years old during that time). This stroller has fit into our life seamlessly and made our outings so much easier! We really do love this stroller.
